Usually we spend the 4th of July in Chicago on our roof deck watching a near 360-degree firework show. This year was a bit different. We were invited to a family reunion (on my husband’s side) in Attica, Indiana. Being in Attica felt like taking a trip back in time. I spent an afternoon reading and relaxing at a small and somewhat outdated country club while my husband golfed with his Uncle, then we drove half an hour to Lafayette (home of Purdue) to find cigars and any beer other than bud light (or its equivalents). The reunion was held at a lovely country house with an enormous porch looking over a field of alfalfa. We had fun catching up with family members and having drinks, waiting for the sun to fall low enough to set off some fireworks. We stayed in Crawfordsville–the nearest town with hotels–and visited their one and only tiki bar (which was actually quite good). Before we set off for home we decided, looking for some entertainment, to drive around to the various covered bridges in the area. Thats where you see me here.
This weekend promises to be a relaxing one. I’ve got my fingers crossed that this summer’s glacial temperatures will rise soon. Happy Friday!
