Loungewear comes in all shapes in sizes. There’s sexy loungewear, comfy bedtime loungewear, totally-uncute-thrown-together-laundry-day loungewear. And then there’s my favorite: can-be-worn-outside-the-house loungewear. Because lets face it, when you’re going to breakfast the morning after a party, you don’t feel like getting all dolled up or wearing anything too tight or too fancy. And that’s where an outfit like this comes in handy.
These pictures were taken at the lodge in northern Michigan, where this outfit got a lot of wear. I spent most of my days at the lodge curled up with a book or watching football, but occasionally I needed to venture outside to help with firewood, grab something from the car, or perform some other kind of chore. This outfit was perfect for that: comfy enough to sleep in yet active enough to perform everyday human tasks.
The key to an outfit like this is threefold. First, there’s the tunic. You need something soft and baggy, but silhouette-skimming enough to avoid looking like a short muumuu. I found this one on sale at Zara, but there are a million options out there, like this drapey forest green version, this chic striped option, or this gray tunic sweater–for when its chilly.
The second key is comfy-as-hell leggings. Now, I know there’s been a lot of buzz out there about Zella’s leggings, but, in my opinion, the best leggings you’ll find are at Target. Not only are they more comfy, they’re decidedly more affordable. Paying more than $15 for a pair of leggings just seems silly to me–but I tend to be frugal. Plus, Target has a nice variety in their leggings, like classic high waisted leggings, fold-over top yoga leggings in a dazzling array of colors, athletic leggings, and even Star Wars leggings. A plethora of options.
By the way, none of this is sponsored. I wish it was–I advertise so much for Target on this site they should be paying me for it, but this is all 100% genuine. I’m a Target shopper through and through.
And speaking of Target, they carry a fantastic selection of the final key to this outfit: warm and comfy boot socks. Check out their collection and tell me I’m wrong. If you’re looking for something truly warm–and if you’re midwesterner like me I don’t blame you–then let me recommend Smartwool. They’ve been keeping my toes from going numb for many a long winter.
