Do you ever look in the mirror, or maybe at a picture of yourself, and suddenly realize you absolutely cannot stand your hair? That’s how it always works for me–I’ll wear a certain cut, color, or style for years and then suddenly I can’t stand it anymore.
On this occasion, it was the color. For the last few years I’d been dying my hair via balayage, but I never totally liked that this left my hair with an ombre dark at the roots and light at the ends look. To be honest, my hair stylist sort of pushed me into it because balayage is so in style. Recently, I looked at one of my outfit photos, saw the dark roots and just decided it had to go. I made a hair appointment the very next day and, after weighing my options with my stylist, went with a full-head foil highlight.
I am so happy with it. Seriously, let this be a lesson to me to push for what I really want, not whats in style or trendy at that moment. I think I look so much better and brighter. What do you think?
Anyway, the dress. I love unique shapes like this one, which I believe was originally from J.Crew–I had to cut the tag out months ago because it was extremely pokey. I love the way it flows in the wind.
Since dissolving my capsule wardrobe about a month ago I’ve made several additions to my wardrobe that I’m happy with. These Quay Australia sunglasses are one of them. I normally go for either an aviator or a cat-eye shape–so much so that my husband actually teases me for always choosing the same shape–but I saw some square sunglasses on With Love From Kat recently and the idea got stuck in my head that I’d like a similar pair.
As a general rule, I don’t like spending much on sunglasses as I’m always worried I’ll break, lose, or get tired of them. These are a bit on the pricier side of what I normally buy, but I couldn’t find anything I liked at cheaper retailers, and I think they’ll be worth it. I tried on three pairs of Quays before I landed on one, and I liked the other two a lot as well. I tried this mirrored pair (on sale for $29) and this tortoise shell pair.
I hope you’re having a great start to your week. What have you added to your wardrobe that you’ve been really happy with lately? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
