Yesterday we up and decided to go to the Arlington Park Racetrack. We usually go there a few times a summer, and it was a great time as per usual. I went with my boyfriend and our friend Brandon. We spent the day making minimum-wager trifecta bets–which is when you bet on the first three horses to finish. Usually we use a special tip sheet that you can buy with the normal program and end up taking away at least a few earnings. Yesterday, however, the tip sheet was all wrong so by the last few races we were picking horses based on silly criteria like the horse’s name or whether or not we liked its coat. All in all, no one strategy proved effective. The biggest bet was won by my boyfriend on a last minute, unboxed trifecta. The odds weren’t long so it was a small payout, but it was still good to have someone win something.

My net wins were $3.50–all of that won on a lucky show bet on a horse with a pretty gray coat. That’s why I picked it.

Anyway, I always try to keep it a bit fancy at the racetrack. The only thing I don’t do is wear heels because we spend the day running back and forth between where our drinks are, the horse viewing area, and the track itself. It would just be too much for my feet.

The hat I purchased for our very first racetrack visit several years ago from the Filene’s Basement on State Street. The pearls are from Etsy. What do you guys think of them? I think I’ve come to the conclusion that they’re not quite right for me. Every time I put them on I just think something isn’t quite perfect about them, but I can’t decide what. But maybe I’m crazy.

The dress is from Goodwill–I had the biggest Goodwill haul of all time last week, so I’m pretty excited to show you guys all the cute dresses and skirts I purchased. I was actually sure it was navy blue and white in the store, but when I got it home I discovered that I was dead wrong–much to my delight. I don’t have a navy blue belt to go with it, but my black one goes perfectly.

Thanks to both my boyfriend and Brandon for snapping these pics! They were actually all taken on my phone. I’m pretty darn impressed with its camera. I didn’t expect these to turn out so well. It’s an Samsung Galaxy S3, in case you were curious.

Have you ever been to the horse races?
