Aloha! I still can’t believe our trip to Hawaii has already come and gone. I suppose all trips are like that–you spend months anticipating them, then they fly by so quickly you’re left groggy in a cab on your way home wondering where the time went. Such is life. This seems doubly true when the trip is spectacular, which was the case for our trip to the Big Island of Hawaii.
I’ve got a lot of resort wear to share with you from our trip, as well as some fun travel diaries. I thought I’d start with one of my favorite looks from the trip–one I pretty much lived in from dawn to dusk.
I spied this coverup at H&M’s post-Christmas sale this year. I think it was intended just to be worn as a kimono over jeans or a sundress (a look I might try in the future) but I think it works spectacularly as a coverup. Going for a classy print like this one, which reminds me of Delftware, is a nice way to make a pool outfit look a bit more elevated. It’s easy to slip into the trashy/slutty category when it comes to swimwear, but by sticking to classic colors like navy and white you’ll be on the right track.
I actually had the hardest time find swimsuits for our trip, which I think was mostly due to the fact that we went a bit before the true resort season rush. This made for a wonderfully uncrowded trip, but also for a tough time finding swimsuits and sundresses. My old mainstay, Target, had rather underwhelming options, so after poking around the web I landed on a retailer that focuses on swimwear year round: Roxy.
The fact that Roxy has specialized in swimwear exclusively for their retailing tenure is obvious in the quality of their garments. This swimsuit has a lovely minimal chic quality to it, with a simple t-strap back (I’m astounded I never snapped a shot of this) that makes it unique among triangle tops in that it’s not a halter. Halter-top swimsuits are great at enhancing busts but not so great at being comfortable for long hours at the pool. This suit is ridiculously comfy–I found myself reaching for it over my other suits time and again.
Given its clearance-rack status when I found it, this coverup is of course sold out. But here are a few similar options for you to peruse:
The balcony shot in the beginning of this post was taken in the morning, and you can easily infer when the picture below was snapped. Time at the pool was the cornerstone of our trip to Hawaii, which was exactly how I planned it, and this little navy bikini kept me feeling confident and comfy the whole time there.
