Just before Christmas I was invited to attend a formal holiday party at City Winery. This was actually my second holiday party there–my company threw a holiday party there several years ago, but it was much smaller. This party spread throughout the entire enormous space and included a live band, a roaring double-sided fireplace, delicious food, and all the wine you could drink. I knew I needed a stellar dress, so I went with this dressy, open-back number from H&M.
I snapped these photos while the sun was still up and flooding through the venue’s enormous floor to ceiling windows, before the party truly started buzzing.
When it comes to evening wear, a floor-length dress is never a bad choice. I always shoot to be over rather than underdressed, and you’ll never be underdressed in a gown. To keep things interesting, I like choosing maxi dresses with details like a bold lace fabric or an open back. Or both, as this dress would have it. There are still a few sizes left at H&M if you’re in search of a New Year’s dress or if your company’s holiday party is in January like mine will be this year.
Here are some similar dress options if you’re on the hunt, all under $100:
So. Isn’t this purse spectacular? I’m feeling particularly proud of it as I spent a good deal of time rooting around Etsy’s vintage bag section for just the right touch of sparkle. I seriously can’t believe how great Etsy’s vintage bags are. I found two that I particularly liked this holiday season, the other being a lucite clutch I featured here.
We had a wonderful time dancing, eating, and sipping the night away at City Winery, and ended the evening with an informal holiday party at our condo. There’s nothing quite like a good fancy holiday party to really put you in a Christmas mood. I already can’t wait for next year.
