I have found the perfect sweater dress. It’s super soft, the just tight enough to be sexy, just loose enough to be comfy and chic, and just the right length on my 5’8″ frame. And it’s only $54. I found it at ASOS along with a camel sweater dress I’ll be featuring soon. I’d never shopped for sweater dresses at ASOS before, but I’m pleased with what I found.
Anyway, enough about the dress. Lets talk brunch. After filling up on dense holiday food and far too many glasses of wine throughout the holiday weekend and the Michigan Ohio State game (let’s just not talk about that) I was in desperate need of a light brunch and some girl talk. Luckily, my good friend Vanessa and I had planned for Sunday morning brunch at one of our favorite spots in Ann Arbor: Cafe Zola.
For the occasion I donned my softest new sweater dress, warm boots, tights, and one of my current favorite pieces of jewelry: my Kate Spade charm bracelet. I pounced on the recent sales and purchased two new charms I’ve been lusting after, namely the initial charm and this little wine glass charm.
Being as it was a brunch between Thanksgiving and Christmas, presents were in order, as were festive tights. I seriously cannot get enough of these sparkle tights.
Cafe Zola is well known among Ann Arborites as being a bit ritzy, a bit pricey. And it is, but in the best way. Their menu is full of amazing brunch platters (many of them with Mediterranean flair), their coffee and tea are all done French press style, and their pastries are made in house. I think it’s well worth the price.
I met my brunch companion at a sunny table near the front and we were quick to exchange gifts. Vanessa had gotten me a couple sweaters Michigan from the Victoria’s Secret Pink collegiate line. They’re super soft and high quality. If you’re looking for a gift for a sports fan, I can’t recommend them enough.
I got Vanessa a t-shirt, notebook, and pennant from one of my favorite stores: Out of Print. Out of Print makes literary t-shirts, sweatshirts, and accessories and donates to literacy-based charities with every purchase. Their To the Lighthouse sweatshirt is my favorite–I’ve practically worn it out. It’s super soft. And it has my favorite author emblazoned on it. Given Vanessa’s status as a die-hard Pride and Prejudice fan, I thought it would make a good gift for her.
After squealing over our gifts, we quickly ordered some caffeine. Generally I have one of Cafe Zola’s many quality champagne-based breakfast drinks, but I had drank enough champagne during the Michigan Ohio State game that the thought of imbibing more was unpleasant. I had their delicious French press black coffee, and Vanessa ordered their loose leaf black tea, which they serve in a French press right on the table.
By the way, I wanted to mention that Vanessa actually hand knit her sweater. Isn’t that amazing? The one time I ever tried to knit anything it ended horribly, so I’m super impressed. Just look at that cabling!
In need of some freshness and lightness after the Thanksgiving feast and subsequent leftovers, I ordered the smoked salmon platter, a breakfast favorite of mine, with an everything bagel. It was heaven. I wish I could dive right into this picture and enjoy it again.
Vanessa and I said our goodbyes, after visiting a local bookstore and making plans for Christmas activities, and I headed home to enjoy the beautiful Sunday. And speaking of Sunday–pro-tip, the parking garages in downtown Ann Arbor are free on Sunday, so now you have no excuse to avoid a quality brunch.
