Welp. It’s spring.
If you’re like me, though, you’re looking out the window and thinking it looks decidedly a lot more like winter. I don’t know about you, but I could use a warm weather escape. Since I already had my tropical sojourn this year–my family went to Hawaii in January–I thought now might be a good time to head back there, at least on the blog, as a distraction from the mounds of snow piling up outside.
For the next few days I’ll be sharing the last few outfits I photographed in Hawaii, beginning with this casual red sundress.
While resort wear is currently crowding the racks at nearly every retailer, when I went to Hawaii in January there was hardly a sundress to be found. I snatched this one out of Loft’s sale section just a few days before our trip, after everything I had ordered online arrived and didn’t fit. I suspect it was a dress from last summer, but the surplice bodice and quality fabric give it a nice timeless feel.
I wore this dress on the first day of our trip to the big island to head to Kanaloa Octopus farm. You can see all the pictures from that–including lots of octopi portraits–in my Hawaii Travel Diary.
Having a few dresses like this one that are forgiving in the midsection is a necessity for travel. When I’m traveling I tend to be indulgent–eating out, ordering drinks, etc.–so I like clothing that works with me, not against me. For our trip to the tropics, I dressed it up with bright jewelry and a simple straw tote, but I could see myself pairing it with heels and a bright clutch this summer for drinks in the city.
Stay tuned for more warm-weather content for the next few days!
