In the last few months I’ve found myself desiring to make some ideological changes to my wardrobe, moving toward a more ethical way of shopping and dressing. Those who have known me for a long time know that I used to be quite a hippie in my college years, and those ideas are still a… View Article

Fair Trade Fashion: Mata Traders

Season: Fall
·

Mata Traders is a fair trade retailer that produces gorgeous dresses, skirts, tops, accessories, and jewelry. As soon as I perused their collection I fell in love with their block prints, screen prints, and embroidery. Their jewelry is handmade as well, and right up my alley. Have a look for yourself and you'll see what I'm on about. The best part? As a fair trade retailer they don't employ any child labor and they provide a stable income for everyone who works on their garments.

In my forays into beauty, I’ve always kept my distance from skincare products. In general I think that they’re mostly the cosmetic equivalent of snake oil. In fact, The Beauty Myth, which I’ve discussed elsewhere on this blog has an entire chapter on how dangerous and insidious the anti-aging industry is with their product’s unsubstantiated… View Article

Three Skincare Upgrades

Season: Fall
·

In general my skincare routine looks something like this: when my skin is dry, I slap whatever lotion happens to be around on it. When I go to bed a put vasaline on my lips. That's about it. Now, having said that, there have been three skincare products that have made their way into my life that I thought were worth mentioning.
